30 bathing sites and 5 marinas have been awarded with Blue Flag. Under the Green Islands Project, Azores is exploring and optimizing sustainable energy options, in particular wind and geothermic. Currently 28% of the energy originates from renewable resources, targeted at 75% in 2018. Predominantly rural, the Azores has only a low density of traffic. Gold Award 2010.
