Hi Martin, Its good to see you start this discussion. I will upload a presentation on the European Ecotourism Network, which I hope forum users will look at to see how we can prepare for IYE +10 in Europe. It includes what is going on in two key projects ECOLNET and FAST-LAIN.
Yes, it will be interesting to see how they think EuroEco can act as a prepration. /M
Prepration for IYE can be one part of the program, certification on destination level another topic that needs to be discussed.

I think it would be good to hear of people's ideas for what they want to see in a 10 year reivew conference, and develop the European perspective for presentation of local examples of the best of european ecotourism.
We would like to see on the Agenda
What happened 2002-2012?
the European Ecotourism network
EETLS
Marketing Responsible Ecotourism at large-scale events- Rio +20 and the Olympics 2012
The International CBD Biodiversity 2020 targets - another decade to save the planet?
Europes' critically endangered species- last chance for the Iberian lynx?
A european ecotourism observatory - monitoring European Ecotourism
What would other people like to see?
?
Toward a continuous discussion
Greetings, all
I'd like to thank the organizers for creating this virtual space for sharing thoughts about Europe and ecotourism, preparing the way for your 2012 conference.
First I'd like to agree with Aivar's comment that we need a continuous discussion and I'd propose that instead of seeking a single platform that we use the array of Web 2.0 channels including Flickr and Twitter. Just include the #euroeco hashtag for easy aggregation.
Looking toward 2012 as the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Ecotourism, I'd like to challenge us as to whether or not 'ecotourism' has reached its use-by-date. Later in June Planeta.com will be releasing our public survey asking about the developments in the past 10 years. Details

As for Europe, my recent trips across the Atlantic to Estonia and England have convinced me that there is a great need for a 'Who's Who of Regional Players.' Again, if the Planeta wiki can be of assistance, I'd be happy to collaborate with potential editors. Details

Elsewhere on the Web, I'd like to invite colleagues to share photos of ecotourism and responsible travel in our Flickr groups:

Finally, let me recognize the good work from the 2011 conference. What made it successful was the amount of buzz it generated beforehand on various platforms. Speakers had the chance to engage beforehand and those not attending were able to take advantage of the event to learn more about the timely issues.
Please do what you can to talk up and tweet about European ecotourism, protected areas and the need for creative collaboration across borders. If I cannot attend in person, find ways that I and other potential allies, can participate online.
As parts of the conventional tourism moves towards ecotourism values it is important to line out the stong elements in ecotourism; environmental protection, teaching/learning/adventure element and the role of the host and the host surroundings. I would like I would like some examples to be presented, maybe in a new and innovative way? (live testing on the scene - we will some up with something..)
