We, the Hotel Wolfringmühle GmbH,

had the goal to produce and to use own green energy with solar power in order to be more sustainable
and to contribute to the environment while dislaying that reducing emissions can go along with economical feasibility.

Issues and challenges have been to find a proper place and to get the legal allowance for the project.

We have built a carport on our already existing parking lot. On top of that carport the photovoltaic modules were installed.
The carport is very innovative. 4m deep fundaments have been drilled into the parking lot for a very stable construction of the carport.

Therefore, it was possible to use a minimum of only 32 posts of steel to hold the roof of the weight of the carport
25 of these 32 posts even being at the edge of the parking lot.
With only 7 posts remaining in the inside area of the parking lot the likelihood for cars to hit the posts is
minimized and thus safety increased.

As a result of the project 370t of CO2 per year are saved. It covers more than 60 percent of the energy needed by the
hotel per year. The amount of electricity produced per year could supply the energy needed of 50 households of 4 persons.
The parking lot has space for up to 72 cars.

The project is recognized by the economy minister of Bavaria with the award: "Umwelt- und Klimapakt Bayern".

Our reflection of the project is that being environmental friendly can go along with economical feasibility.

The style of construction of the carport was more expensive than usual carports however is very long lasting
and safety is maximised.

Challenges have been met with being able to use the green energy for the hotel directly.
Moreover emissions are reduced and with the overproduced electricity green energy is also supplied
to the public electricity grid.

Additionally green energy is provided for our guests with four electric charging stations for their vehicles.

The carport also gives shelter to guests and their vehicles from snow, rain and heat of the sun.

An important issue for us and critical success factor was that no new land was needed since the parking lot
was already existing and therefore natural areas have been preserved.
