Министерство на околната среда и водите (Ministry of Environment and Water)

The Ministry pursues the environmental policy in the country. Its competencies include conducting the procedures of environmental impact assessment and compatibility assessment of investment projects (including in the field of tourism). The Ministry manages the national parks (II IUCN category), and the directorates of the national parks are directly subordinated to the Ministry.

Environmental Management Scheme (EMAS) - helps organisations comply with legal requirements and improve their environmental performance while saving energy and other resources. EMAS is applicable to all types of organisations - public and private, large multinational companies, as well as SMEs with few financial resources and limited expertise in environmental management. EMAS-registered organisations prepare and publish environmental declarations describing their environmental objectives and results.
