Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve is located in one of the most remote and well protected parts of the Ecuadorian Amazon. Deep in the nearly two million acres of the Achuar people’s territory, Kapawi is accessible only by air—flying in small planes over an unbroken green expanse of rainforest. We offer various activities like bird watching, hiking on the self-guided trail, night canoeing, clay lick visit, night guided hikes, swimming & tubing, kayaking & canoeing, fishing, overnight camping, Achuar community visits as well as resting and relaxing. The Kapawi Project began in 1993. The goal was to start a new trend in eco-tourism, providing a monthly means of economic support and jobs to the Achuar Indians. Since 2008 all installations of the lodge belong entirely to the Achuar Indians. The lodge was built in accordance with the Achuar concept of architecture. Environmentally friendly methods such as solar energy and rubbish recycling are also being used.
