Full mutual respect of all involved stakeholders in tourism and culture , gathered together to create responsibly attractive tourism products in destinations is expected. Joint planning of tourism activities in accordance with the preservation and promotion of cultural values aiming at positive impact on the community and visitors is expected. Financial income from tourism, which stems from a visit to cultural sites and monuments should be provided accordingly to the provided service, and be at least partly used for the maintenance, protection, development and maintenance of heritage.
Availability of heritage sites to visitors should be provided, including interpretive and practical level, with appropriate business hours, in accordance with stipulated agreement, providing organized transport. Operation of tourism activities must be conducted with maximum protection of heritage, both tangible and intangible, including life style, customs and habits of local communities:
- Living culture of the population should be introduced to visitors
- Tourism should not change the lifestyle of local communities if the community does not want
- Implementation of the rules of responsible behavior towards the destination should be ensured promoting responsible tourism attitudes and actions.
Respect for the identity, values and diversity of local culture and heritage is expected
- Providing objective and complete information about the culture, heritage, environment, customs, social rules
- Providing a credible interpretation of the heritage that stimulates understanding and interactivity (guides, exhibition, ...)
- Providing controlled use of sites that have special significance in the life of the community (churches, cemeteries, holy places ...)
- Tourism can encourage the restoration of forgotten customs and crafts
Respect for the archaeological, historical and scientific sites is expected
Reducing consumption, pollution and visual pollution, reduces damage to the environment, improving the tourist experience. Local communities should benefit from the heritage and tourism - need to be involved in tourism planning and tourism activities. Responsible attitude toward employees, and trained staff is key to responsible tourism.
