A high-level conference on tourism organised by the President of the European Parliament is taking place on 27 September 2017 in Brussels.  The conference will discuss "A European strategy to enhance the competiveness of the tourism industry, a key driver for job creation".  The event will also be livestreamed.

While tourism is an important source of economic growth, generating more than 5% of the EU's gross domestic product, the sector faces various challenges, such as its impact on the environment and local life, precarious jobs and increasing competition from countries outside the EU.

This conference will bring together political leaders, policy makers and stakeholders to debate these challenges in three panels:

  • How to attract more investment, improve the business environment and upgrade skills
  • Tourism innovation and digital economy
  • Promoting Europe as the number one tourist destination
