Belasitsa Nature Park is the newest nature park in Bulgaria, among eleven nature parks in total - managed by Park Directorates established within the Executive Forest Agency under the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.
Belasitsa Nature Park was announced by order № RD-925 of 28/12/2007. The Park Directorate was established in 2008. Its declaration is aimed at: Preservation of centuries-old forests, composed mainly of common beech and chestnut, as well as natural plane tree habitats; Conservation of protected and endemic plant and animal species, as well as unique and representative communities and ecosystems in the forest-free zone of the mountain. The total area of the park is 117,324,318 decares.
Belasitsa Nature Park Directorate implemented the project "En-act - Environmental actions project to promote alternative forms of tourism" with the purpose to preserve and advertise the rich and diverse natural resources of the territory as a means of balanced and economic development, to promote new alternative forms of tourism of ecological interest in order to provide new mechanisms for improving the quality of life in the region, and to create a network of partners with interests in the development of alternative forms of tourism with respect for the environment.
