Olympic Truce Peace Ambassadors Supporters Group

The Olympic Truce Peace Ambassadors need support. They are usually based in areas of conflict, have minimimal resources and time, and are under potential threat of violence themselves. We need a group of orgnaisaitons and individuals to stand up and support the Truce ambassadors to do their work effectively and safely.

We are looking for key stakeholders to get behind the Truce. The UN-WTO has taken a lead in supporting us, and now we are looking for the IOC , National Olympic Committes and Government Ministries to back this campaign and work alongside the dedicated group of Sports Tourism and cultura NGOs that are already involved following the London 2012 Games.

With your support we are aiming to:

Identify and recruiit Truce Peace Ambassadors in conflict zones around the world
Call for a one minute silence at the during the opening and closing ceremonies to mark the Truce
Run an online trainng programme for each Peace Ambassaador in the conflict zones to report on the Truce
Develop a Peace Ambassadors Friends programme to ensure individual contact with Truce abassadors.
Hold an Olympic Truce and Travel Reporting Conference during Rio 2016 in Brazil.

Welcome to the Online Training Room of the Brazil 2016 Olympic Truce Peace Campaign!

The ABC of Being an Olympic Truce Peace Ambassador

These pages offer an on-line training space for Olympic Truce Peace Ambassadors for Rio 2016. It will give you all the knowledge and tools to:

1) promote the Olympic Truce in your country or among your interest groups, and

2) to make your Truce Implementation Progress Reports.

You will be linked up with an existing Truce Peace Ambassador, who will mentor you through your promotion and reporting process. This will involve a series of Skype based online individual and group training session. With their assistance, you will undergo and inductiion process to follow the ABC programme of becoming an Olympic Truce Peace Ambassador, as set out below

A. Introduction to the Olympic Truce Campaign - History of the Olympic Truce and its Modern Context

B. the Role of an Olympic Truce Peace Ambassador - Creating a National Strategy to Promote & Report on the Implementation of the Truce in your Country.

C. The Brazil 2016 Olympic Truce Awareness, Responsible Stakeholder and Conflict Area Report Cards

During your training on developing a national Olympic Truce Peace Promotion & Reporting Strategy you need to undertake the following steps in your own time in this order:

Study the history and background of the Olympic Truce and become familiar with the Global Peace Index and its profiling of your conutry.
Download and read the ppt ‘Creating a national strategy to Promote & report on the implementation of the Truce in your Country’.
Send an email to the campaign coordinator to say you have read the ppt and can join in one of the weekly Skype Truce Ambassador International Strategy Progress Meetings.
You will be assigned a Truce Mentor (one of the existing UNESCO trained London 2012 Olympic Truce Peace Ambassadors) - keep in regular contact with your mentor.
Prepare a ppt of a truce promotion implementation plan for your country. It will include contacts in the NOC, ministries, peace and sports NGOs, a celebrity, a politician and an Olympic sports personality.
State any key events you plan in the report.
Make a form of this presentation to use for fund-raising purposes.
Fill in the Responsible Stakeholder Report Card for the country on which you wish to help report.
Monitor and report on the process of the Truce during the Games using the Conflict Area Report Card.
Deliver your reports at the international truce monitoring conference.

Your national work will and should always be done in close contact with your Truce Ambassador mentor.

Victor Mutanga, one of the UNESCO Olympic Youth Pece Ambassadors trained at the London 2012 games, recently released his heartfelt call for the Truce in Africa under the IOTCs Olympic Truce theme ‘Imagine Peace’.

Now you can put your talent to work fo promote the Truce - this is your chance to put the words in the poem below to music or music and video, to win a chance to go to Rio this summer!

During the week the United Kingdom and Germany formally declared their countries were at war in the middle east Olympic Truce campaign coordinator wrote this poem and then adapted it to highlight the One Minute Silence the Peace Ambassadors are calling for at the Opening and Closing ceremony to mainstream the truce.

to trumpet the Horseman coalition they called

Centuries of pain for economic gain …

… But these same visionaries, so politic

They signed up to a holy Truce

that day the Truce was signed

One eighty times

A UN Resolution

that should be the main solution

with an end to all violence

marked by a One Minute Silence …

TO ALL GLOBAL CITIZENS

IF YOUR COUNTRY HAS ESCALATED ITS WAR EFFORT, PLEASE COUNTER OUR INHUMANITY BY WORKING FOR SANITY – TOGETHER ACHIEVING AN END TO THIS GLOBAL CONFLICT BY HELPING IMPLEMENT THE OLYMPIC TRUCE THIS SUMMER, – AN END TO ALL VIOLENCE TO ANYONE - TO BRING PEACE ON EARTH IN OUR LIFETIME WITH A ONE MINUTE SILENCE AT THE OPENING AND CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE GAMES TO HIGHLIGHT THE TRUCE.

Rules

The competition will have two winners - one for best song, and one for best graphics. Entries have to be made online by 29 July 2016, the day the Truce starts. The Olympic Truce Peace Ambassadors will form a jury to judge the entries, with a decision announced on 5^th August at the start of the Games. All judges decesions are final.
