SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production

The tourism sector needs to adopt sustainable consumption and production (SCP) modes, accelerating the shift towards sustainability. Tools to monitor sustainable development impacts for tourism including for energy, water, waste, biodiversity and job creation will result in enhanced economic, social and environmental outcomes.

Exemplary or innovative actions At Green Tiny Houses, we create accommodation offers that understand sustainability not as a label, but as an experience. Our mini-holiday homes are there where no hotel can go: in the midst of nature, from the sea to the mountains. In addition, we build the Green Tiny Houses completely ecologically and health-compatible for the occupants. The 22 square meters are full of green innovations that make sustainability tangible. We call this the tourism of the future - which protects nature and inspires people to lead a more conscious life.

SDG 13 - Climate Action

Tourism contributes to and is affected by climate change. Tourism stakeholders should play a leading role in the global response to climate change. By reducing its carbon footprint, in the transport and accommodation sector, tourism can benefit from low carbon growth and help tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our time.

Exemplary or innovative actions: Green Tiny Houses are mini holiday homes that are built in a fully ecological and healthy living manner. Our guests can experience the future of vacation in just 22 square meters that are equipped with the latest green innovations. The houses do not need any compaction of surface and show that sustainability does not necessarily is connected with renunciation.

Measurable achievements:

- the facade of the Green Tiny Houses is made of CO2-impregnated Superwood from sustainable forestry and lasts between 25 to 30 years (Superwood A / S is a Danish company that has developed a unique and patented technology to completely impregnate wood without the use of heavy metals and organic solvents)

- infrared heating instead of burning wood (only for the ambience)

- reverse osmosis water filter in the kitchen to access pure high quality water from the tap

- the bathroom is equipped with the most sustainable shower system in the world to date which was originally invented for the NASA and consumes up to 90% less of water and up to 80% less of energy than conventional shower systems

- incinerating toilet that is working without any drop of water and burns all excrements at 600 degrees and leaves a cappucino cup full of ash that can be used to

- air-purifying system that cleans the air in the room within 24 hours just with the power of the plant inside that converts formaldehyde and other air pollutants into nutrients for itself together with intelligent skylights with automatic ventilation

- climate- and resource-positive organic wooden hand and shower towels

- all Green Tiny Houses are certified as sustainable holiday properties and accordingly only use a minimum of resources

- all CO₂ emissions that occur are offset through regional climate protection projects and thus enable you to stay overnight in a climate-neutral manner

SDG 14 – Life below Water

Coastal and maritime tourism rely on healthy marine ecosystems. Tourism development must be a part of Integrated Coastal Zone Management in order to help conserve and preserve fragile marine ecosystems and serve as a vehicle to promote a blue economy, contributing to the sustainable use of marine resources.

SDG 15 – Life on Land

Rich biodiversity and natural heritage are often the main reasons why tourists visit a destination. Tourism can play a major role if sustainably managed in fragile zones, not only in conserving and preserving biodiversity, but also in generating revenue as an alternative livelihood to local communities.

Due to its cross-sectoral nature, tourism has the ability to strengthen private/public partnerships and engage multiple stakeholders – international, national, regional and local – to work together to achieve the SDGs and other common goals. Public policy and innovative financing are at the core for achieving the 2030 Agenda.

Exemplary or innovative actions:

We have learned and gained experience in every development step of our various Green Tiny House models. We have perfected the optimal use of space and the combination of high-quality technology and furniture. Each of our models has style-defining properties, but they all combine our goal: to make sustainability and healthy living tangible.

Measurable achievements:

- 3 different designs: nature, nature sun and pioneer

- 4 e-bikes with a range of 60 kilometers included

- Sustainable mini sauna house outside: Sweating is good for us! That is why you will find the “original” sauna at each of our locations: the Finnish sauna. The little siblings of the Green Tiny Houses are built just as sustainably and transform your vacation day into an aromatic experience that lets body and soul relax in depth.

- Tiny work spaces: If you want, you can also use the Green Tiny Villages as a retreat and concentrate fully on your work. There are workspaces on site that inspire you with new ideas in front of a beautiful natural backdrop and reinterpret the term "remote work".

Exemplary or innovative actions We would like to give you an insight into our idyllically located Bioland farm, which is located on a terp in the old marshland on the edge of the tranquil village of Süderdeich, away from the noise of the street. Enjoy holidays and relaxation with us in the fresh North Sea air on an actively managed organic vegetable farm behind the North Sea dykes. The extensive landscape is ideal for long walks and bike rides. Here you have the opportunity to unwind.

SDG 13 - Climate Action

Exemplary or innovative actions: Bioland farm

Measurable achievements- :If you travel by electric car, there is an e-filling station in the yard. You can also charge the e-bikes you have brought with you in our bicycle storage room.-- Due to our proximity to the North Sea, we are one of the regions with the most sunshine. This not only benefits the guests, since 2005 we have installed over 1200 square meters of photovoltaics on the roof areas of our courtyard buildings. With this we can generate up to 120 kWp of electricity.- The Dithmarsch North Sea coast is one of the windiest locations in Germany. With the energy transition, our region is not only determined by its vastness, windmills have increasingly been integrated into the landscape. Since 1992, the Wollatz farm has had two wind turbines that we renewed in 2014. Now we operate three Enercon E82s with our neighbors and with them enough electricity for over 6000 single-family houses.- We cover our hot water requirements and also part of the heating requirements by means of our 20 square meter solar collector surface on the farmhouse roof. In order to further reduce the energy requirement in the house, we decided in favor of radiant wall heating with earth building technology as part of the renovation. This enables us to work with low flow temperatures. We have energetically renovated our vegetable cooling system for over 400 tons of vegetables and now operate it with much more compatible refrigerants and more efficient motors. We also monitor the cooling and compression rooms so that no coolant can escape unhindered.- We want to get away from oil and have already equipped one of our houses with a geothermal heat pump, now we want to convert the farm and seek advice on further CO2 optimization.

Exemplary or innovative actions: We are the fourth generation to continue running the farm. Convinced that organic farming was the right way to go, Eggert Wollatz converted the business as early as 1987. Since then, the company has been managed according to Bioland guidelines. We, too, are convinced that only with nature can we farm sustainably for generations.

Exemplary or innovative actions: With a child-friendly atmosphere and natural contact with many animals, we are a child's dream. There is a spacious courtyard with comfortable seats and beach chairs in which you can relax. Our swimming pond with its beach section also invites you to linger. Are you looking for pure relaxation and want to leave your daily routine behind you, then our sauna house with sun terrace is just the thing for you.

We are here on Sylt, we want to support the maintenance of a normal infrastructure on the island - that's why we prefer to work with Sylt companies, buy a lot of things for renting and our life here on Sylt and not on the Internet or on the mainland.

we have an old house and that should and can be seen quietly. Not all walls are straight, not all angles are 90 °, this is an old building and it should stay that way!

We have always rented permanent living space to very, very nice people who work on Sylt. The old consumer association remains inhabited even in winter and in the quieter times and exudes life and cosiness.
