Local Level Observatory Processes

It is at the local level that the cutting edge of implementation takes place, and the 2011 statistical  directive now asks the member states reporting to the European level to account for this micro-detail. At this local level, there are many varied initiatives to monitor sustainability.

• In the EC FAST-LAIN project, the La Palma Biosphere Reserve represents a local observatory initiative that provides an excellent observatory process for the island.

• Importantly, ICLEI maintain a list of councils with local agenda 21 implementation and monitoring processes.
