The principal source of tourism statistical information can be found in the European Commission in Eurostat.
DG Enterprise have the main responsibility for tourism developments, and provide report-based information on the state of European tourism. DG Environment, DG Education, Training and Culture, DG Transport, DG Regio and DG Research have large databases of tourism-related material.
DG Environment finances the European eco-innovation observatory which functions as a platform for the structured collection and analysis of an extensive range of eco-innovation information, gathered from across the European Union
The European Environment Agency provides statistical and information services to the Commission’s directorates, which includes the environmental impacts of tourism.
Outside of the Commission, a number of research institutes conduct European studies. Importantly the European Travel Commission maintain a membership list of national tourism offices who produce European-wide research on tourism.
NEW! The European Tourism Indicator System has been launched as a toolkit by DG Enterprise. Look out for a listing of destinations using the toolkit in DestiNet's sustainable tourism observatory section.
If you are using the toolkit already, upload a link to your work here.
